| How would you outline your role? |
| Our work usually starts when a client has tried everything in their power to recover their money - and failed. We work for a variety of clients, including local authorities recovering parking fines or council tax money. We also work for businesses and on large insurance claims. Because we specialise in this area, the first role we take on is to advise clients if an account is worth pursuing or not. |

| What are your responsibilities? |
| Corporate debt recovery is not about knocking on people's doors trying to intimidate them. We usually start with negotiation, by letter and by phone. People see our headed legal notepaper and often that's enough to get people to pay up. We work alongside the debtors as well, making sure they can pay off their debt month by month if necessary. Many of our clients - like local authorities - have a large number of small debts and a few have small numbers of high value debts, such as large businesses. |

| What hours do you work? |
| We work part time, few hours a day Monday to Sunday. Our day starts at 9.00am and I'm usually finished on time at 9.00pm. Because we are doing a job share, we stay to up-date my colleague. |

| What's our working environment like? |
| Almost all of our work is calm and non-aggressive. Most people have a mental picture of debt recovery as unpleasant work, but it's a profession that's highly misjudged. We are office based, sharing an area with two other debt professionals and that's great because we can bounce ideas off each other. Having legal experts in the building is very valuable and they are always on hand for advice. |

| Who do we work with? |
| We work alongside two people doing the same job and with a variety of clients trying to recover small and large amounts of money. Most of the company's legal specialists have worked in industry, insurance, or accounting. |

| What special skills and qualities do you need for your job? |
| You need to be confident using the telephone, well organised and firm. It's important to stay in control of conversations as well, as people will avoid direct questions, give bizarre excuses and highly personal reasons why they haven't settled their debts. |

| What are the particular challenges in your work? |
| The biggest challenge is trying to persuade people you are not trying to be difficult with them, but simply trying to calmly negotiate a solution. Nevertheless, people can get rude and aggressive. |

| How do you see your future? |
| For the moment, working part time suits our well; to be honest We are not looking for a high pressure job, and we have just the right amount of hours. |
